Pant murder: Protesters picket Singhadarbar, demand Home Minister’s resignation

Protesters picket Singhadarbar demanding resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa accusing him of being unable to conclude the probe into Nirmala Pant murder, on Thursday, October 4, 2018.

Kathmandu, October 4

A group of youth on Thursday picketed the southern gate of Singhadarbar, the country’s central administrative complex, and demanded that Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa resign.

The youth had launched the demonstration protesting the government’s inability to conclude the investigation into the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant in Bhimdatta Nagar of Kanchanpur around two and half months ago.

Unable to find any clue about the identity of the perpetrators, the government has also not taken action against anyone.

The street outside Singhadarbar is a prohibited zone for demonstrators. As the protesters entered the prohibited zone, police tightened the security. They also blocked movement through the southern gate for a while.
