Kathmandu, June 2

Opposition parties including the CPN-UML on Friday have demanded that the Parliament Secretariat begin procedures to elect the new prime minister only after the halted vote counting in Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Bharatpur district will resume.

The UML has been obstructing the Parliament meeting demanding the resumption.

After President Bidya Devi Bhandari called parties in the Parliament to elect the PM with majority votes within a week yesterday, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar wants to begin the procedures immediately.

But, the opposition parties held a meeting today and concluded that the process should not begin while the meeting is being obstructed.

Otherwise, the Speaker had thought to beginning the procedures by issuing a notice on the Parliament premises.

She is planning to consult top leaders of major parties over the next step this afternoon.
