Nepal’s veteran cricketer Shakti Gauchan announces retirement

Nepal national cricket team’s veteran bowler Shakti Gauchan has announced retirement on Wednesday.

Gauchan says Nepal’s first one day international matches, to be played with the Netherlands on August 1 and 3, will be his last games as a member of the team.

However, he says he has a wish to play a farewell match in front of Nepali fans within the country.

The 34-year-old allrounder made the announced during a press meet organised on the eve of Nepal cricket team’s Europe tour.

Nepal are playing against the MCC at Lords on July 29 before going to the Netherlands for the one day matches.

Speaking at the function, Gauchan wished that his juniors would elevate Nepali cricket’s standard higher.

Likewise, Nepali team’s captain Paras Khadka said Gauchan’s contribution was instrumental Nepali cricket’s journey so far. He also demanded that government give some award to honour the veteran.

Gauchan joined the Nepal’s national cricket team in 2002.
