Nepal Communist Party revises pecking order to address dissatisfaction

Kathmandu, July 16

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has revised the pecking order of party organisation in order to address voices of dissatisfaction raised by various sections of the party including officials of the sister organisations.

According to the revised structure, chairpersons of the party’s Discipline Commission, Accounts Commission and Election Commission now  can enjoy a higher status, equivalent to politburo members.

Earlier, they were given an invitee status and some of them had objected to the status in writing.

Likewise, officials of the sister organisations will not have any position in the fixed pecking order of the mother party. Earlier, it was proposed that they hold the same status as members of districts committees, but the organisations’ representatives had protested the proposal.

The new proposal makes it mandatory for officials of sister organisations to join other structures of the main party. Earlier, they could not do so. The respective committees will decide the order of such officials.

Meanwhile, the party formed after the merger of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre has decided to increase the size of its central, provincial and local committees.
