CPN-UML Secretary Pradeep Gyawali says opposition parties including the UML will be further distanced from ruling parties if the government puts the disputed constitution amendment bill to vote in Parliament.
Gyawali’s statement comes few hours after the ruling parties assured agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal that the bill would be put to vote as soon as possible so that the agitating party could contest in the third phase of local level elections in Province 2 scheduled for September 18.
Speaking with journalists at the Reporter’s Club in Kathmandu today, Gyawali says his party would not led the House pass the amendment, claiming the proposal is just a political scheme to keep people of Madhesh on their side in the run-up to polls.
The leader is of the view that the RJPN should take part in the elections anyway even if the amendment proposal is blocked because people are waiting for the polls.
Nepali Congress leader and Minister for Commerce Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, however, says the government is determined to take the UML into confidence and endorse the amendment.
