Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat says various actions and activities of the government has forced people to detest federalism.

Joint General Secretary of the main opposition party says federalism in Nepal is heading towards failure and the current government will be held responsible for it.

Commenting that excessive taxes imposed on the public might also make people hate the new system, Mahat demands the government make corrections at the earliest.

Speaking with journalists in Pokhara this morning, Mahat also claimed that his party would direct the party’s elected officials at the local level to withdraw tax hike in their jurisdiction.

In another context, the former minister said the government was heading to controlling all sectors of the country, warning it would not do any good to democracy.

“The government should correct itself. It should drop the ‘command and control’ policy,” he warned, “Otherwise, the Congress party would launch a fresh protest.”
