Four Jhapa locals killed in late night house fire

Four members of a family were killed when their house caught fire in Shivasatakshi of Jhapa district in eastern Nepal, on late Sunday night.

The victims have been identified as Laxman Khanal (35), his wife Radhika (32), their four-year-old daughter Chandra and four-month-old son Tika Ram.

Their house in Laljhoda, Shivasatakshi Municipality-7, had caught fire at around 10:45 pm yesterday when everyone was asleep, informs DSP Mahendra Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson of the District Police Office.

Meanwhile, Khanals’ neighour, Geeta Dhungel (37), sustained injuries. She has been taken to Biratnagar-based Nobel Hospital for treatment.

A fire brigade, police and locals contained the fire within next few hours.

The two-storey house with roofed with zinc sheets was completely destroyed in the incident.

Police say they are calculating the amount of loss and investigating into the case.
