EPL 2016: All you need to know about the top transfers of the season

Like the saying ‘go big or go home’ goes, the 2015/16 transfer window in the English Premier League definitely did not disappoint.

While EPL might not have the two greatest players of our generation in Ronaldo and Messi but the most celebrated managers in the world now call it their home. Premier_League_Logo Pep Guardiola is at the helm at Manchester City and Jose Mourinho is your manager at Manchester United; you just can’t write a script like that.

Some of the biggest news this season was made by the sheer pedigree of managerial talent that made its way to the EPL. Now while Antonio Conte brings his passion to Stamford Bridge, it is the existing bunch in Pochettino, Wenger, Klopp, Ranieri who find themselves under pressure to step up to the plate and do something big this season.

From world record returns to big spending little clubs, we take a look at the biggest moves this summer.

The Transfers

Zlatan Ibrahimovic To Man United

The day has finally arrived. After Zlatan walked off the training grounds at Arsenal nearly 20 years ago, it seemed like the talismanic striker would finish his career outside England, never to bring his boastful charm to the Queen’s Island. But Jose finally did the impossible and for free may I add. Zlatan has been an impactful signing for the Devils and looks set to set the EPL alight.

Paul Pogba To Man United

Pogba can rightfully boast his 90 million Pounds worth homecoming (well, at least till Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford). The gifted midfielder has talked smack about his time at United, he explained how Sir Alex called him to mock his move to Juventus, basically calling him unwanted and how Pogba vowed never to return to the place that maligned him as such.

He spent four successful years at Turin, honing his craft and becoming an integral part of the team that won back to back to back Scudetti. He currently champions a rejuvenated French side that made it to the Final of the Euros. There were rumblings of his stance softening against the most popular club in the world and then a music video was dropped.

Paul Pogba was a Manchester United player again.

Michy Batshuayi To Chelsea

The Belgians, I presume, have a farm somewhere near Brussels, where they churn out one world-class player after another. The current crop of Belgian players is probably the most gifted and the most exciting in the team’s history. Michy, is the latest addition. The boy impressed in his debut at the Euros in the summer and it didn’t take long for Chelsea and Conte to wrap up his deal before other clubs would start sniffing around only to increase his market value. The undisclosed amount as transfer fee was rumored to be around a whopping 34 Million Pounds for the young wunderkind and it seems to be paying dividends. His partnership with Diego Costa is already showing signs of greatness.

Drogba Jr., they call him lovingly.

John Stones To Manchester City

The next Rio Ferdinand? The next Tony Adams? John Stones walked onto the Etihad for his club reveal with a lot of expectations. Otamendi, Mangala have been as consistent as my attention span watching them play. The woe of realising the players you signed, are not up to the mark must have hurt Pellegrini. So it didn’t take long for Pep to go deep into the Sheik’s pockets and throw whatever ludicrous sum Everton asked for (again, see: Joleon Lescott). But here is a young man that has a straight head between his shoulders. His composure, decision making and physical strength make him the perfect partner for Vincent Kompany.

But to be honest, it’s time they looked for his replacement as well. Age catches up with the best of us.

Nathan Redmond To Southampton

It’s not always about the most talked about players; it’s sometimes about electric talent that can’t be denied. Redmond has been a force in the Canaries’ Jersey last season. So it was no surprise that Southampton came knocking and he completed a much anticipated move to St. Mary’s. Redmond not only possesses pace and dribbling to send you the wrong way, his finishing is what makes him a player to man mark every single time.

Definitely, a player to watch out for the 2016/17 season.

David Luiz To Chelsea

After he openly celebrated scoring against them at PSG, Luiz’s signing basically showcases the lack of good defenders out there in the market.

Brad Guzan to Middlesbrough

He came with a ‘flappy’ moniker and showed that against Sunderland. It befuddles the brain as there is a World Cup Winner in Victor Valdes itching to play on the bench.

Christian Benteke To Crystal Palace

For 30 Flipping Million Pounds! Yeah, good luck with that one.
