Kathmandu, December 5
In the wake of recent minor explosions as the country is heading towards the second phase of provincial and federal parliamentary elections, the Nepal government on Tuesday has called members of the public to inform police if they see any suspicious object or people around them.
Issuing a public notice today, the Ministry of Home Affairs says anyone can immediately call nearby police stations or dial 100, the Nepal Police Control Room hotline, to inform security personnel about likely threats.
The Ministry has maintained that anti-election forces are carrying out such activities in a bid to terrorise public against the polls. The government, however, has not specified who these anti-election forces are.
It has been largely suspected that cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN are involved in the activities as the party has openly announced to protest the polls.
