Biratnagar, April 8

Acharya Shreeniwas, a Hindu spiritual leader, has been shot at in Jatuwa of Biratnagar Metropolitan City in Morang district in the wee hours of Sunday.

The leader who resides in Prakashpur of neighbouring Sunsari district was in Jatuwa from Saturday to attend a religious function at his follower’s home. An unidentified group shot at him while he was out to answer nature’s call.

The man was scheduled to tell and interpret stories from holy books at the function.

SP Arun BC of the Morang District Police Office says the bullet passed through his right chest. However, he is out of danger now, informs Neuro Hospital, where he is being treated.

Meanwhile, police suspected involvement of Mongol National Organisation, an underground outfit, in the attack as some fliers published by the organisation were found near the incident site.

However, no further evidence has been collected to far to verify their involvement, investigators inform.

Meanwhile, his supporters condemned the attack and demanded action against the culprits after due investigation.
