Won’t let anyone cast a spell on Melamchi, says Minister

Minister for Water Supply, Bina Magar

Kathmandu, February 22

Minister for Water Supply, Bina Magar, has claimed that the government is committed to completing the ambitious Melamchi Water Supply Project, stating it will not tolerate any effort launched against the project.

Responding to queries of lawmakers at the House of Representatives meeting on Friday, the Minister said, “The project is important for the people of Valley. It is also connected to my personal success. Therefore, I will not let anyone cast spell on it.”

Magar clarified that she transferred Secretary Gajendra Thakur to another ministry after he could not forward the project ahead as directed by her.

She informed that the government was trying to bring the Italian contractor, CMC, back to the project, but Thakur opposed.  She claimed the CWC’s comeback would result in speedy progress in the project.

Earlier, some lawmakers had raised questions if Thakur was transferred with some vested economic interests.
