Won’t join Deuba government, announces RPP

Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa speaks at a press meet in Kathmandu, on Friday, July 21, 2017.

Kathmandu, July 28

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has announced that it will not join the incumbent coalition government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

A Central Working Committee meeting of the party made the decision on Friday.

The fourth largest party in Parliament is angry with the ruling alliance after PM Deuba expanded his Cabinet without waiting for the RPP response about joining the government.

After its hopes of getting calls from the PM were shattered with new ministers’ oath, the party had dissolved a team it had formed to hold talks with the ruling parties.

Earlier, the party was in conversation with the Prime Minister and demanding five ministries including a deputy prime minister’s position. But, the Prime Minister had assured to give four ministries only.

Meanwhile, the party criticised the government for failing to address issues of Madhesh and implement the constitution.

The party also decided to hold its provincial conventions in six provinces except Province 2 within next 1.5 month. The convention in Province 2 will be held after local level elections scheduled for September 18.
