A 62-year-old woman was killed in Parsa while resisting a group of robbers who broke into her house at around 2:30 am, police said.
Lakharjiya Devi of Dhobini Rural Municipality-5 was found dead in a room on the second floor of her two-storey house at around 8am on September 21. Police initially suspected murder based on the condition of her body and launched an investigation.
The District Police Office, Parsa, has arrested three 18-year-old men in connection with the robbery and murder. They have been identified as Chandan Kumar Patel, Raj Kapoor Baitha, also known as Ghalathariya, and Ramu Paswan, all from Dhobini-5.
According to police, the suspects entered the house through a window after climbing over the rear wall. They broke open a steel cupboard and stole cash and jewellery. Lakharjiya became aware of the theft while the suspects were breaking open a tin box in another room.
Police said she went upstairs and resisted the robbers, who attacked her, resulting in her death.
Police have recovered two gold bangles, Rs 760 in cash, a knife, pliers and a vehicle spring leaf. The suspects had allegedly divided the stolen cash and jewellery among themselves.
Police have obtained a seven-day remand to investigate the suspects on murder charges.
