Kathmandu, August 21
Nepal has selected White Sun (Seto Surya) for nomination to the 90th Academy Awards in the category of best foreign language film.
Nepal so far has been able to secure only one nomination in the Oscars with the Caravan in 1999. It was Nepal’s first selection and seven selections have been made after that, but none was nominated.
White Sun, directed by Deepak Rauniyar, tells a conflict within a family divided due to different political ideologies of two brothers. It is set against the backdrop of Nepal’s decade-long armed conflict.
Earlier, the movie had won the Interfil award at the Venice film festival.
