The Nepali film Himalayan Gold has signed a deal with the Indian distributor AA Films for a release across India, the film’s team said.
The agreement was signed in Mumbai with AA Films founder Anil Thadani. The film, directed by Dhiraaj Rajbanshi, is scheduled to open in theatres on November 20. According to the team, it is the first time a Nepali film has secured a nationwide Indian release through a distributor of this stature.
AA Films has distributed films including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Baahubali, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, Pushpa and Kantara in India.
“Himalayan Gold is a film with exceptional content that audiences across India deserve to experience,” Thadani said. “It is a privilege for us to associate with the talented team behind it, and we are confident that audiences will break language barriers to embrace and love this film.”
Rajbanshi, for whom this is a debut feature, thanked Thadani and AA Films for backing the film.
“I cannot even begin to put into words how huge this is, not just for me but for the entire Nepali film industry,” he said. “With their backing, this film will now reach audiences everywhere. This is exactly the kind of motivation our industry is constantly seeking, and to receive this level of support for my debut film honestly means everything to me.”
The cast includes Sunil Thapa, Rahul N. Mukhia, Parikshya Limbu, Sajan Thapa and Karma Shakya in lead roles.
The film is the last of veteran actor Sunil Thapa’s career, Rajbanshi said. Taking his final performance to audiences in Nepal and India is a fitting tribute to his legacy, the director said.
The trailer is due to be released on Monday, the team said.
