Kathmandu, February 3
The Election Commission has stated that voters will be allowed to cast their ballots by presenting any one of six types of government-issued documents.
This was stated in a response to a query received by the call centre established by the Election Commission. In response to the question of whether voting is allowed without a voter ID card, the Commission said that voting is permitted if a voter can present any one of six government documents.
According to the Commission, being registered in the voters’ list is mandatory in order to vote. Voters whose names are included in the voters’ roll are generally required to carry their voter ID card when they go to vote.
In the absence of a voter ID card, or if it has been lost or damaged, voters may cast their ballots by presenting the original copy of any one of the following documents: a Nepali citizenship certificate, national identity card, passport, driving licence, or land ownership certificate.
The election is scheduled to be held on Falgun 21.
