Biratnagar, July 2
Counting of votes has been suspended in Birtanagar, the lone Metropolis that went to polls in the second round of local elections on Wednesday.
According to the Chief Returning Officer, the counting process was suspended after local political party leaders asked authorities make the count more systematic.
The Returning Officer has asked the parties at least two hours to improve the counting procedure and to suspend the process during the period.
The count in Biratnagar has been criticised for being slow. Forum-Nepal’s candidate for mayor has filed a complaint saying that is tally is inconsistent with the official tally. The Nepali Congress’ Bhim Parajuli is in the lead in the race to become the industrial city’s new chief.
