Vivo Y15S in Nepal: Good design, average camera, displeasing pricing

Vivo Y15S is the latest smartphone released in Nepal from Vivo. The company announced the release of the latest smartphone earlier this week while celebrating the 4th anniversary of the company in Nepal.

During the past four years, the company has released a number of handy smartphones for the users. Y53s, V21, V21e, Y21 and Y1s are some of the notable releases from Vivo this year. Now, it is wrapping the year with another premium budget-range smartphone.

Along with the release of the phone on the 4th anniversary, the company also announced a sales carnival.  Anyone purchasing a Vivo smartphone from December 15, 2021, to January 5, 2022, will be liable to win exciting gifts from the company. The company also announced to provide an additional six-month warranty on selected smartphones.

But, today, let’s review Vivo Y15S. First, look into the specifications and we will share with you our conclusion that the phone can hardly earn any popularity in the Nepali market given its relevantly high pricing.

Design and display

Vivo Y15S has a typical Vivo design. It resembles a lot with the Y21 released earlier this year. The phone has a glass front, a plastic back and a plastic frame. Like Vivo Y21, it has a waterdrop notch on the front, housing a camera, whereas it has a camera module at the left top and a vertical Vivo branding below. It also has an integrated side-mounted fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone, and the user can use face recognition as well.

The phone is slimmer and lighter than most of the smartphones in this price category. It weighs only 179 grams and has a thickness of 8.28mm.

Vivo Y15S has a 6.51 IPS LCD display that has a maximum resolution of 720*1,600 pixels. The big screen can be handy while surfing videos on the internet. The screen-to-body ratio of the phone is expected around 83%.

Vivo Y15S have a moderate camera setup. It has a 13MP main camera on the back accompanied by a 2MP macro camera. On the front, it has an 8MP camera. Both cameras can record videos in 1080p at 30fps. It has camera options like panorama, live photo, pro mode, and HDR selfie.

Performance and battery life

Vivo Y15S runs on Android 11 (Go edition) with Funtouch 11.1 on top. The phone is powered by Mediatek Helio P35 (12nm) chipset. The graphics of the phone are handled by PowerVR GE8320.

Giving life to the phone is a 5,000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. This should be a great battery backup. Since high graphical apps and games that drains a lot amount of battery cannot run on the phone, the battery should last for a significant amount of time. The battery supports a 10W fast charging and even supports a 5W reverse charging, which requires an OTG cable to do so.

Storage, connectivity and other features

Vivo Y15S is currently available in only a single variant. The phone comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The internal storage can be expended with the help of a microSD card. The phone has a dedicated slot for the card.

The phone supports dual sim cards and also dual-band Wi-fi. The phone can be connected to other devices through a Micro USB 2.0 cable. Furthermore, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, OTG and also FM radio. The phone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio connectivity.

The price of Vivo Y15s is Rs 19,999.

Verdict

Given its price, Vivo Y15S has a lot of competition. There are smartphones from Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme that provide better specifications in this price range. Vivo Y15S is a good looking smartphone and is one of the lightest and slimmest smartphones in this category. But, that is just it, and there is nothing exciting on the phone. Even its design too seems to have been borrowed from Vivo’s own Y21.

The price of the phone is rather high given the specifications it is providing. There are so many smartphones on the market already that can beat Vivo Y15S in almost every specification. It has a Go edition of Android 11 while its competitors have the Android 11. The chipset on the phone also could have been better. The 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM also do not provide justice to the price.

Compared with the latest releases of other brands, for example, Realme Narzo 50A, which costs Rs 500 less than Vivo Y15S, provides a better camera, better processor, better battery performance, better internal storage, better RAM storage and even supports 18W fast charging. It beats Vivo Y15S in almost every category.

Overall, there is hardly anything on the phone that can back up the extravagant pricing. Samsung Galaxy F12, Samsung Galaxy A12, Galaxy M12, Realme Narzo 50A, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 10 Prime, and Redmi Note 9 are some better alternatives of this phone in a similar price category. Vivo should really work on it pricing.
