US envoy opens GuffGaff interactions despite Nepal govt’s objection

Kathmandu, May 27

United States Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has begun a controversial interaction series on Twitter despite an expressed objection of the host government.

In the first part of the series, Ambassador Berry on Monday responded to a question asked by a Nepali student named Prachi. Berry has posted a 34 second video of  the question answer on his Twitter.

The envoy had made the announcement about the programme on Twitter exactly one week ago.

Following the announcement, members of the public and some experts had objected to the plan arguing it was against the diplomatic etiquette. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also expressed its concerns and summoned the envoy for a clarification.

Some media reports claimed that the government had urged Berry to cancel the plan.
