American doctors offer a free health camp in Gorkha’s remote Chumnubri

Kathmandu, February 19

A group of four American doctors and three nurses under the supervision of three Nepali doctors and two acupuncturists organised a four-day free health camp in Chumnubri rural municipality- 3, Gorkha of western Nepal last week.

The event was organised by Kyimolung Foundation NepalElevate Nepal, and Humanitarian Efforts Reaching Out (HERO).

According to the organisers, 1,500 locals benefitted from the health camp. 

“We hadn’t expected such a huge number of people to visit the health camp. We are very happy to serve all those people,” says Wangchuk Rapten Lama, the founder and president of Kyimolung Foundation Nepal.   

The organisers also informs that most of the locals had the problem of back pain and knee pain, and a lot of children were infected with scabies. 

 “The lifestyle in the village is hard, they have to walk a lot carrying heavy things, so the people here have back pain and knee pain,” says Dr Julia Williams, a board member of HERO. 

Likewise, the lack of education and hygiene has infected children with scabies, she says, adding the organisations want to do more work for the betterment of the village in the coming days.

 After concluding the health camp, on Friday (February 17), the organisers distributed the medical equipment including the coulter counter, microscope, delivery bed and vaccine freezer to a local health post. Similarly,  they also distributed daily life accessories such as blankets, mattresses, toothbrushes and others to the 166 hostel students and seven teachers of Shree Buddha Secondary School, Chumnubri-3, where the health camp was also organised.  Similarly, they also distributed reusable 200 reusable sanitary pads to local women.

 According to the organisers, around Rs 80,00,000 was invested in the entire programme.   

Dan Maurer, the founder and president of Elevate Nepal, says his organisation wants to make this village better as much as possible and for that, the organisation needs support from everyone. 

Meanwhile, Wangchuk Rapten Lama of Kyimolung Foundation Nepal pledged to build a health centre for the villagers in the near future. 

 Nima Lama, head of Chumnubri rural municipality expressed gratitude to all the organisers for successfully concluding the event.
