Urgent public importance motion demands ‘special’ status for Province 2

Three lawmakers in the House of Representatives, representing different ruling and opposition parties, registered a motion of urgent public importance in the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Thursday, demanding Province 2 be recognised as a ‘special’ province.

The ruling Nepal Communist Party’s Prabhu Sah, the main opposition Nepali Congress’ Amaresh Kumar Singh and Samajwadi Party’s Uma Shankar Argariya argue that the province in more underdeveloped than other provinces, hence a special status would help the province get more development opportunities. They also demanded that the government announce a special financial package for the province.

In the motion, the lawmakers have said the province has a lot of industrial enterprises, but still, it is far behind other provinces in terms of per capita income and poverty status.
