The CPN-UML is starting its Madhesh campaign, aimed at countering charges that it is an anti-Madhesh force, from today by mobilising the masses at Tarai-Madhesh, party leaders said.

UML Chair KP Sharma Oli is launching the campaign from Kolhavi of Bara district by inaugurating the ninth district convention of the party in the presence of senior party leaders, including those from Province 2, which includes Bara. It may be noted that Oli had not visited Madhesh when he was prime minister. At that time, Madhesh movement was at its peak.

In the run-up to and after promulgation of the Constitution, the UML has not organised huge programmes and formal gatherings in the southern plains. The party has organised its programmes in areas close to highways.

UML leader Baija Nath Chaudhary said review of provincial demarcation is not a demand of people living in Madhesh.

He said: We are with the people and the people want end of discrimination, they want social justice and development.
