UML leaders did not understand the law: CEC Yadav

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav speaks with journalists in Kathmandu, on Sunday, December 31, 2017.

Kathmandu, December 31

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav says accusations made by some CPN-UML leaders that the Election Commission was delaying the new government formation by putting on hold final results of proportional representation elections for House of Representatives are meaningless.

He says the leaders making such charges have not understood the law about the process of result announcement.

“If they feel our role is suspicious, it is their issue; please ask with themselves,” Yadav told journalists while speaking at an interaction in Kathmandu today.

Yadav reiterated that the PR poll results could be announced only after the conclusion of National Assembly elections as each party should allocate 33 per cent of their total lawmakers to women and the missing portion should be fulfilled through PR elections for House of Representatives.

He said the Commission would announce all results within 30 days of the conclusion of National Assembly polls.

In another context, Yadav said the Commission would take action if any party was found to have altered the order of its PR candidates while making the selection.
