Kathmandu, June 1

The CPN-UML candidate for the position of Mayor in Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Hari Krishna Byanjankar, has moved the Patan High Court claiming a rigging resulted in his loss in the recent polls.

In the petition, he has claimed that he should have won the race by 415 votes.

In the poll results declared, Nepali Congress Candidate Chiribabu Maharjan defeated Byanjankar by 326 votes. Maharjan has already taken the oath and assumed office.

But, Byanjankar said the poll officials entered wrong data on computer while calculating the votes and did not let him review them when asked.

The UML leader has claimed that he was forced to knock the door of the court as the Election Commission did not heed his repeated demands while vote counting was underway.

In particular, vote counting from wards 1, 2, 4, 9 and 26 had turned disputed, but the officials unilaterally continued the counting, he claimed.

The first hearing will be held on Friday, according to the court.
