Conspiracy theory

  • Pokharel said the Amendment Bill is against Article 274 of the Constitution
  • The Bill is against the country and the people. Opposition parties are opposing it to defend the Constitution
  • Forces that were ‘blocking’ the introduction of the Constitution are now ‘conspiring’ against its implementation

Kathmandu, January 1

There’s no letup in the war of words between the ruling coalition, especially the Nepali Congress, and the main opposition CPN-UML.

In a latest salvo, the UML has challenged the coalition to present the much-contested Constitution Amendment Bill in the Parliament.

UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel said they — opposition parties — are eager to see the government present the Bill in the House by going against the Constitution.

It may be noted that the NC and the CPN-Maoist Centre are preparing to present the Bill in the Parliament with support from the United Democratic Madheshi Front, on Monday.

Pokharel, speaking at a programme in Kathmandu on Sunday, said the Bill is in violation of Article 274 of the Constitution. He said: We are eager to see how the government stands against this constitutional provision.

The UML leader said they are opposing the Bill to protect the interests of the country and the people by defending the Constitution.

He claimed that conspiracies are afoot to block the implementation of the Charter. The forces that were against Constitution promulgation are now conspiring against its implementation, he said, adding: Patriotic forces are uniting against this design.
