UML, UCPN-Maoist reached no deal on changing Oli govt leadership: Ishwor Pokharel

ISHWOR-POKHREL2

Kathmandu, June 10

For Ishwor Pokharel, general secretary of the ruling CPN-UML, a purported ‘deal’ between his party and then UCPN-Maoist on changing the leadership of the KP Sharma Oli-led government is a figment of imagination.

While reaching a nine-point deal, the two parties also discussed some issues on the sidelines, Pokharel said, adding that he was also present during that exercise. But there was no agreement on changing government leadership during the discussions, Pokharel said while talking to mediapersons on Friday.

If parties reach an agreement on changing government leadership, that’s fine, he said, adding, however, that forming another government by dismantling the current coalition is unacceptable to his party.

Prachanda (then UCPN-Maoist Chair) raised some issues at the meeting, but then UML made it clear that changing government after passage of the budget (for the fiscal 2073-74) will be anarchic. “Even Prachanda agreed on this,” Pokharel said.

The main opposition Nepali Congress is ready to reach an understanding on amending some laws for implementation of the constitution, the UML leader said.
