UDMF turns down Nepal government’s invite for talks, seeks invitation for Federal Alliance instead

Kathmandu, May 24

The United Democratic Madheshi Front has decided not to take part in the talks with the KP Sharma Oli government and the main opposition Nepali Congress.

Prime Minister’s Office had called the parties for talks scheduled to start at 10.30 am through email. Prime Minister Oli had separately written to the UDMF to take part in the talks.

But the UDMF has decided against participating in the talks. The Federal Alliance comprising Janajati parties and UDMF has been staging a Kathmandu-centric movement in a bid to make the government address its demands.

UDMF leaders say the government should invite the alliance as it has been spearheading the movement. Rajendra Shrestha, leader of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, said: The government is adopting a policy of divide and rule. The Federal Alliance is launching a movement, so the government should invite it for talks. We will not attend the talks if the government invites the UDMF.
