Two Nepali police staffers injured in clash with Indian civilians

Biratnagar, July 19

A troop of the Armed Police Force clashed with Indian civilians near the Nepal-India border in Malaha Tole, Gauriganj of Jhapa, Nepal’s farthest eastern district, on Saturday night. Two APF staffers have sustained injuries in the clash.

APF SP Reshm Kumar Thaksu says its troop was forced to retaliate after the group of civilians coming with domestic weapons attacked the personnel.

Initially, four rounds of fire were opened in the air to control the mob. However, the Indian side did not withdraw and injured two of the personnel in the clash that occurred after 9:30 pm yesterday, according to police.

It has been learned that smugglers used to transport various goods illegally via this point. However, the security personnel had tightened security measures since the beginning of the lockdown. Some personnel believe they were attacked just because they tightened security there.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to hold talks with concerned Indian officials and settle the tension.
