Kalikot, June 26

Supporters of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel clashed at the Kalikot district convention of the party-aligned youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, on Saturday. Two persons, including a police officer, sustained injuries in this ‘show of strength’. Police have detained six Dal cadres on the charge of involvement in the clash.

The clash occurred during the closed session of the convention, when Deuba and Poudel camps were doing every bit to secure Dal’s leadership positions. Bhim Shahi, candidate for NTD secretary from the Deuba camp, and police officer Prakash Budha have sustained injuries in the clash.

Shahi’s supporters have accused Poudel supporters of attacking them with beer bottles in course of a minor dispute. But the Poudel camp has refuted this.

Shahi has suffered serious head injuries. After first aid at Kalikot district hospital, he was sent to Nepalgunj for further treatment, police Inspector Tek Bahadur Jora informed. NTD youths also attacked police with beer bottles when the latter tried to bring the situation under control. Officer Budha is under treatment at district hospital.
