Two House panels bar journalists from their meetings

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee and the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee are led by Shashi Shrestha (l) and Purna Kumari Subedi respectively.

Kathmandu, February 14

Two committees in the House of Representatives barred journalists from attending their meetings on Friday morning.

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee and the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee barred the reporters from the meetings citing they would discuss some important issues today.

The State Affairs Committee was scheduled to discuss reports of corruption in the Nepal Army and Nepal Red Cross Society. Earlier, a subcommittee under the committee had recommended that the government launch an investigation into the property of former Nepal Army chief Rajendra Chhetri suspecting his involvement in various activities that amount to corruption.

Likewise, the other committee was planning to discuss the inter-country energy summit. Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun, his ministry’s secretary and Investment Board Nepal CEO Maha Prasad Adhikari had been summoned to the meeting. Pun, however, did not attend it as he was out of the capital.
