Two House committees fall short of quorum to hold meetings

File: A meeting of the Finance Committee

Kathmandu, November 5

Two meetings of different committees in the House of Representatives could not take place on Tuesday as they fell short of the quorum required to convene the meeting.

The Finance Committee had called a meeting to discuss a bill to amend the Citizen Investment Trust Act. However, only seven of 25 members were present at the meeting. The meeting was postponed till November 14 after no additional members showed up in the next 1.25 hours, according to its chair Krishna Prasad Dahal.

Meanwhile, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee also could not hold its meeting due to the same reason. The meeting was called to discuss provisions of the bill on civil service. Minister for General Administration Lalbabu Pandit and his ministry’s secretary Yadav Koirala returned to office after the committee fell short of the quorum.

The committee also has 25 members.

A committee needs to have at least 51 members present to convene its meeting.
