Kathmandu, July 16

The Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital says it will launch the liver transplant service within next one year.

“The Ministry of Health has already released budget needed for infrastructural development,” TUTH Executive Director Dr Deepak Mahara says, “We will begin the service within this year.”

Dr Ramesh Singh Bhandari will lead the transplant service.

Meanwhile, the TUTH says the Japanese government is providing medical equipment worth Rs 700 million to the Hospital by December this year.

The equipment will be used in MRI, mammography, ultrasound and anesthesia, according to Dr Mahara.

“The Japanese Ambassador had decided to assist us with some money while visiting the hospital during the 2015 earthquake,” he says, “But, we demanded equipment from him as we thought we could not buy quality tools with that money.”
