Biratnagar, September 21

Three persons, including a woman and her two minor daughters, have drowned in a fish pond in Gramthan rural municipality-4 of Morang on Sunday.

The victims have been identified as Sita Adhikari (35), and her daughters aged 13 and 9, residents of Banaskhandi, Gramthan rural municipality-4, according to police.

Preliminary investigations have suggested that the nine-year-old girl drowned while swimming, and the 13-year-old and their mother died when they entered into the water to rescue her, one after another, informs Police Inspector Rishi Raj Dhakal.

The youngest was naked whereas her elder sister was just in undergarments when the bodies were recovered. The mother was fully dressed.

The mother had taken them to the pond to feed the fish, informs ward chair Baijanath Bishwas. After the trio did not return by the evening, the family had begun the search to find all of them dead in the pond.

The woman was living with her parents. Her husband is incommunicado for the past nine years.
