Terror on the loose: Wayward buffalo attacks six people in Sundhara, brings traffic movement to a halt

A stray he-buffalo went on rampage at Tripureshwor-Sundhara area on Thursday afternoon, leaving motorists and pedestrians  panicking for quite sometime.

At least seven people suffered injuries as the animal attacked them while hurtling towards Sundhara from Tripureshwor at around 1 pm, causing traffic jam at Shahid Gate and surrounding areas as panicked motorists and pedestrians fled in desperate bids to save their dear lives. According to police, an unidentified woman suffered serious injuries in the attack. Pedestrians rushed her to hospital. Six motorcyclists also suffered injuries. The rampaging animal also vent its fury on a car.

Nepal Police and City Police personnel took the animal under control later with much difficulty. According to police, the animal may have escaped from one of the slaughterhouses in Teku. The buffalo is now in Tundikhel, with police keeping a close watch on it.

No one has come to claim it so far. But a motorcyclist, who suffered leg injuries in the rampage, was waiting for the owner so as to seek compensation for the injuries and the damage that his bike has suffered. Most of the victims have returned home after treatment at Bir Hospital.

In an earlier incident, a buffalo had entered HAMS Hospital in Buddhanagar and terrorised people there. Police personnel shot it to death later.
