Tension grips Nepalgunj as police fire teargas shells, foil alleged bid to loot weapons

Nepalgunj, March 14

Police fired in the air and resorted to teargas firing at Urgapur in Banke district along the Gulariya-Nepalgunj road in a bid to avert an untoward situation between CPN-UML and UDMF cadres, on Tuesday. District administration categorically said police fired teargas shells after UDMF cadres tried to snatch police weapons.

However, UDMF leader Istiyak Rai said their cadres made no such attempt. Our only objective was to prevent people from coming in to attend UML programme at Nepalgunj, he said. Tension has gripped the area with UDMF cadres trying to prevent UML supporters from heading to the venue of the party’s mass gathering, which is part of the Mechi-Mahakali Campaign.
