Taiwanese youth survives on salt and snow for 47 days in remote Nepal

Kathmandu, April 27

A youth from Taiwan who had slipped on the snow and went missing was found alive after 47 days in a remote village of northern Dhading in Nepal, on Wednesday.

His girlfriend accompanying him, however, was found dead.

Liang Shang Yuen (21) was rescued from an altitude of 2,600 metres while the rescuers found the body of Liu Chen Chun (19) near the place he was lying under the snow.

The duo had fallen into a gorge after slipping on the snow in Tipling of Dhading district on their way to Langtang Valley in March second week.

The rescued youth is undergoing treatment at the Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi of Kathmandu. He is out of danger and can speak.

He reportedly told doctors at the Hospital that he survived on salt and snow for 47 days.

“I was hopeful of my life,” he added that the desire for life also helped him survive.

The duo were studying at a university in Taiwan and were in Nepal since February.

Earlier, kin of the missing trekkers had requested the government of Nepal to search for them.

A fortune teller in Germany had reportedly told the family of youth that he was living.
