Kathmandu, June 11

The Supreme Court has ordered the government to revise its June 21 tax payment deadline considering the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the coronavirus crisis.

In response to two writ petitions filed regarding the issue, a division bench of justices Anil Kumar Sinha and Manoj Kumar Sharma issued an interim order to the government on Wednesday, directing it to give the citizens at least 30 days after the end of the lockdown.

Earlier, the government had issued an order to pay various taxes for the previous months by June 7. After protests from traders and stakeholders, the government had revised the decision, extending the deadline by two weeks. Dissatisfied with the order, advocates Srijana Adhikari and Thaneshwar Kafle had registered separate writ petitions seeking the court order.
