Kathmandu, April 8

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order telling the government not to implement the Bhaktapur District Administration Office’s decision to cancel the Biska Jatra celebrations in the district next week.

A single bench of Justice Purushottam Bhandari issued the order on Wednesday in response to a writ petition filed against the recent decision.

Meanwhile, the Bhaktapur municipality has also decided to celebrate the festival while maintaining health protocols considering the risk of another wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lawmaker Prem Suwal and some elected representatives of the municipality also met the Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Bhattarai on Wednesday and urged him to correct the decision.

Following the administration’s order to cancel the jatra citing the fear of the second wave of the pandemic, locals had expressed dissatisfaction warning they would defy the order.
