Kathmandu, October 13

A group of student union leaders and cadres on Friday engaged in a clash with staff at Ministry of Education as the employees stopped them from entering the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education.

As a part of their already announced protest, leaders representing nine student unions had gone to the Ministry with a plan to smear soot on the face of DPM Gopal Man Shrestha.

They, however, had claimed that they were there to handover a memorandum to the Minister.

But, as the leaders started chanting slogans demanding Shrestha’s resignation, the staff had tried to stop them.

The unions have been carrying out various forms of protests against the recent ninth amendment to Education Act, which they claim is faulty and detrimental to the future of country.

They have also decided to boycott the Minister.
