Salt Trading Corporation, a public utility run by the government, has assured that it has a stock of salt and sugar among other daily essentials sufficient for the next 10 months. The assurance comes amidst fears that the global threats of novel coronavirus spread will affect cross-border supply systems.

The corporation’s chief executive officer Urmila Shrestha informs that it has 158,500 metric tons of salt and it will be sufficient to address the domestic demand for the next 10 months. Shrestha also clarifies that there is not any obstruction in the supply of salt as of now.

The corporation’s departmental manager Brajesh Kumar Jha says the corporation has 2,500 metric tons of salt in its godown whereas 7,500 metric ton is being imported currently. It will be sufficient for more than five months, according to him.

The corporation has said no one needs to worry about the shortage.
