Kathmandu, May 12
An art exhibition titled Somethings in the Belly, curated by Bunu Dhungana, is currently on display at the Nepal Art Council, Kathmandu. The exhibition, which runs through May 16, explores the intricacies of mother-daughter relationships across generations, offering a poignant reflection on the divides and connections that shape these deeply personal bonds.
Bringing together a diverse group of featured artists including Asmita Badi, Shraddha Devkota, Irina Giri, Rachel Lowe, Ujjwala Maharjan, Tripty Tamang Pakhrin, Shristi Shrestha, and Prateebha Tuladhar, the exhibition delves into the complexities of understanding and being understood across generational, cultural, and experiential lines.

According to the exhibition note, the show is “an effort to reach across what we perceive as separating us – and what must surely bind us together forever.”
It invites viewers to reflect on the abilities and inabilities to connect with their mothers, and to navigate the conflicting desires of closeness and distance.
Organised as part of the Art Exchange: Moving Image South Asia Programme, the exhibition is supported by the British Council and organised by LUX and Art South Asia Project.
