Sunsari, March 15
The Shram Sanskriti Party has finalised the names of four lawmakers to be elected under the proportional representation system.
Party spokesperson Satya Ghale said the names were decided during a central committee meeting held in Dharan on Saturday. He added that the selected names will be sent to the Election Commission.
The party has selected Purna Limbu (male) from Sunsari under the Indigenous Nationalities cluster, Rubi Kumari Thakur from Dhanusha under the Madhesi cluster, Ambika Devi Sangraula from Sunsari under the Khas Arya cluster, and Radhika Ramtel (Sarki) from Surkhet under the Dalit cluster.
Limbu, selected from the Indigenous community, is a captain and a former British Gurkha soldier. Party chair Harka Sampang had already announced his name at a program on Sunday morning.
Thakur from Dhanusha represents Generation Z. Chair Sampang said the party included her name from the Madhesi women’s category with the aim of ensuring representation of the Gen Z group.
There had been strong competition among women party members seeking seats under proportional representation, making it difficult to accommodate everyone within the limited number of seats.
Earlier, Mandira Moktan from Makwanpur, Asha Lama from Kathmandu, and Samala Rai from Sunsari were being discussed for the Indigenous women’s cluster. Among male candidates, Captain Limbu’s name was recommended after a mutual understanding with Jivan Bista of Morang, who has a visual disability and was being considered under the Khas Arya cluster.
Party chair Sampang had faced difficulty finalizing the names from among candidates listed in the closed proportional representation list, as the number of available seats was limited while the number of aspirants seeking to become lawmakers was high.
