Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Sampang Rai has criticised the government, accusing it of failing to deliver on public expectations and questioning the performance of ministers across key sectors.
Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Rai raised serious questions about the government’s performance and accountability.
Rai said the prime minister and individual ministers had failed to fulfil their respective responsibilities.
He accused the government of failing on fundamental issues including border protection, law and order, the supply of fertilisers and food, job creation and controlling inflation.
Rai also demanded that Prime Minister Balen Shah attend Parliament and respond point by point to questions raised by lawmakers and the public.
Rai drew the attention of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation to a land dispute in Ramdhuni-7 of Sunsari, where he alleged that land mafias had registered 64 bighas of land in their names.
He demanded that the government ensure justice for residents affected by the dispute.
Rai also raised the issue of depositors of Baraha Savings and Credit Cooperative in Dharan, saying billions of rupees belonging to depositors were at risk.
He urged the government to take steps to ensure that the depositors get their money back.
“Cooperative victims have not received their money, there is no justice in the courts, and people are not in a situation where they can receive treatment in hospitals,” Rai said.
“The government must be fully accountable to Parliament, and Parliament must be fully accountable to the people. Otherwise, there is no meaning to our debates.”
Speaking about development projects, Rai also called for the immediate advancement of the contracting process for projects in Sunsari-1 and other parts of the country.
He said delays in awarding contracts were holding back development and urged the government to move the process forward without further delay.
