Shots fired during election of school management committee in Rautahat’s Dharahari, two injured

Rautahat, June 9

Two people were injured in a firing incident that took place during the election of Sri Kisan higher secondary school management committee, in Dharahari, Rautahat district, on Wednesday night.

The incident happened right after supporters of two candidates vying for the post of committee chair — Hridaya Narayan Shah from the ruling CPN-UML and Ram Babu Chaudhary and Hari Shankar Paswan from the main opposition Nepali Congress — clashed after it came to light that 23 unregistered votes were cast during the election.

The clash had ensued while police were taking away ballot boxes to a spot designated for vote counting. As the dispute continued late into the night, police intervened and dispersed the supporters of the two camps.

Right after that, an unidentified person opened fire, injuring Shambhu Prasad of Gharahari-4 and Chait Pandit of Dharahari-5. The two were rushed to National Medical College in Birgunj for treatment, police said, adding: A search for the shooter is underway.
