Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will not contest the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
His personal secretariat has confirmed that Deuba will not be a candidate in the election.
“I would like to inform that former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will not be a candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives election,” his personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, said.
Candidate registration for the House of Representatives election is taking place today.
Deuba had been contesting elections from Dadeldhura. Following the Nepali Congress Special General Convention that elected Gagan Thapa as party president, Thapa has signed the tickets for parliamentary candidates.
Meanwhile, the Deuba faction has filed a writ petition at the court, stating that the new party’s working committee is illegitimate.
With Deuba opting out of the election this time, Nepali Congress leader Nain Singh Mahar will be the party’s candidate from Dadeldhura.
