Kathmandu, August 24
Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashanka Koirala has claimed that there is no one in his party except him who can defeat its President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the election to be held for the party leadership next year.
Whereas Deuba himself is preparing to contest the poll scheduled for February 2021, several other leaders have expressed their desire to lead Nepal’s oldest political party.
In the party’s last general convention in March 2016, Koirala was elected the general secretary from the panel led by Ram Chandra Paudel. Paudel is also hoping to run for the position this time again and has expected Koirala’s support. But, Koirala told News Agency Nepal in an interview today, “Personally, if there is anyone who can defeat Sher Bahadurji, that is me. Ram Chandra Dai cannot. No one can. But, there’s guarantee that I can.”
He, however, maintained all the leaders opposing Deuba should be united and field their common candidate against him to secure a win.
