Seven-member full bench to conduct final hearing on Silwal case

Supreme Court of Nepal

Kathmandu, June 1

The Supreme Court is scheduled to conduct the final hearing on a writ filed by Nepal Police DIG Nawaraj Silwal on Thursday.

Chief Justice Sushila Karki has formed a seven-member full bench comprising justices Cholendra Shamsher Rana, Jagadish Sharma Paudel, Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Tej Bahadur KC and Purushottam Bhandari to conduct the hearing.

Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for May 18. But, it was put off citing citing one of the justices assigned for the case was a relative of the plaintiff.

Before this, the final hearing was slated for May 2, but was put off after the ruling coalition filed a motion to impeach Chief Justice Sushila Karki in Parliament.

The bench will hear Silwal’s petition that he be appointed Nepal Police chief, as well as a writ filed by erstwhile DIG Prakash Aryal with a contesting claim.
