Chitwan, December 21
In a bid to control poaching of rare wild animals such as the one-horned rhino and the Bengal Tiger, Chitwan National Park has started operation ‘Major Hunt’ to catch poachers.
This is the fifth year that the operation, which lasts till the beginning of monsoon, is being conducted at the park.
According to chief conservation officer Ved Kumar Dhakal, the special anti-poaching campaign was launched with the help of Nepal Army.
He shared that the troops in coordination with the national park employees will patrol and provide special security 24-hours inside the national park.
He added that sniffer dogs, domesticated elephants, vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and boats would also be used for patrolling.
Winter is considered a sensitive season for poaching as the forests are deserted and receding waters makes boating easy.
