Police in Lahan, Siraha, have arrested the driver of a Scorpio SUV with 123 bottles of suspected narcotic drugs. The driver was arrested during a joint inspection conducted by the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police on Wednesday morning at Thadi Road in Lahan Municipality-3, based on a tip-off.
An 11-member vehicle mobile team from the Armed Police Force Security Base in Lahan, led by an assistant sub-inspector, and a nine-member mobile team from the Area Police Office in Lahan, also led by an assistant sub-inspector, jointly stopped and searched the SUV, registration number Sa 1 Cha 1414.
During the search, police found 123 100ml bottles of Corex-C inside the vehicle. The arrested driver has been identified as 41-year-old Bijay Kumar Bisuke of Lahan Municipality-10.
SP Suman Jung Thapa, chief of the Armed Police Force in Siraha, said the joint operation was launched based on specific information. He said the driver was taken into custody after the drugs were found during the search of the Scorpio.
The seized drugs, the Scorpio SUV and Bisuke were handed over to the Area Police Office in Lahan at 10:24 am Wednesday for further investigation and legal action, according to the Armed Police Force.
Meanwhile, Siraha District Police Office Chief SP Basudev Pathak said an investigation into the case was underway. According to him, the drugs were seized and the driver taken into custody after the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police jointly conducted the operation based on information they had received.
“We have already initiated the legal process. We will seek an extension of the detention period tomorrow and begin further investigation,” SP Pathak said. Police said they are also investigating Bisuke’s possible involvement in drug trafficking, as well as the source and intended destination of the seized drugs.
