Kathmandu, October 5

Sajha Yatayat has expanded its bus service to Birgunj of Parsa district, keeping in view an increase in the number of passengers leaving the Kathmandu Valley for the border town during the festive season.

This comes three days after the government-owned corporation extended its bus service to Gorkha and Baglung districts. In a few days, Sajha will expand its services to cover Lumbini via Bhairahawa, it is learnt.

Mahendra Raj Pandey, acting chief executive director of Sajha, said Sajha has expanded its services outside the valley for the first time in course of 10 years. From October 2, two buses each are leaving daily for Baglung and Gorkha.

Due to organisational problems, Sajha had stopped its long-route bus services about 10 years ago. Thirty buses imported from India about two weeks ago will start their operation after Dashain, Pandey said.

Within the valley, 16 buses have been operating for about three-and-a-half years. Sajha is not adding more buses to its existing fleet for operating its service outside the valley.

These buses are drawing crowds these days, unlike in earlier days of the relaunch, when passengers were few and far between. One such bus has 55 seats. Passengers can get tickets for destinations outside the valley from ticket counters at Pulchok and Kalanki.
